Fire Chief

Fire Protection in Hartford City is provided by 7 full time fire fighters.
Chief, Asst. Chief, Investigator, Inspector, Engineer, and Training Officer and 21 Volunteers. Fifteen of the firefighters are EMT first responders or higher and we have over 60,000 hours in training from Master Firefighters to Firefighter I & II. All firefighters are trained to hazardous material operations level we have one of the best fire prevention public education, juvenile fire setter and investigation programs in this area. We make an average of 260 calls per year in the city. Our average response time is 2 minutes. We also service 3 of the 4 Townships and all of Blackford Co. for Rescue. We average 150 calls per year for townships and we have a response time of 5 minutes per call. We assist Blackford County EMS an average of 150 times per year on EMS calls when needed. We have a Fire Insurance Classification in the city of 5. Mutual aid agreements with 13 area fire departments.

Anyone interested in being a volunteer firefighter can pick up an application at the Fire Station, 315 W. Washington, you must be at least 18 years old and live within Licking Township, Washington Township, and Jackson Township (up to 600 E).

Equipment

  • 1250 GPM 75-foot ladder

  • Two 1250 GPM pumpers

  • A rescue truck equipped automated external defibrillator.

  • The TWS has a 1250 GPM pump, 3200 gallon tanker, a 2000 gallon tanker and a new brush truck.

All of this equipment is housed in a modern fire station staffed 24 hour 7 days week.
